Historiography of Early Modern Ottoman Europe (HOE) Database

The Chair for the History of the Ottoman Empire and Turkey (Prof. Dr. Markus Koller) and the University Library of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum have launched a Bibliographical Database of Historiography in Ottoman Europe (15th-18th Century).

Funded by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), this open access project aims at identifying, recording and detailing the main published and unpublished historical sources and archival materials relevant to the various forms of history writing of Early Modern Ottoman Europe. The Main section provides information on the authors, titles, contents, and location of the manuscripts of the main sources related to the writing of history in Ottoman Europe. One may also find data on the extant editions and translations, as well as a selective bibliography and indications whether the material is available online. The Tools section contains short presentations of catalogues, major editions of documents, and special collections / funds related (directly, in the case of the special collections; indirectly, in the other cases) to the topic. A series of Working Papers will complete the triptych. The users of our database are not only addressed as recipients of information. They will be able to contribute information for consideration by contacting us at ottomanhistoriography@rub.de.
